Back home............

What a Buuuussssssyyyyyy weekend.............

Cheryl Jacobs rocks! What a fabulous weekend, spent in the company of Cheryl, her wonderful fiance Bob, and some great photographers around the country. We were all enthralled by Cheryl's lovely style and manner; such a pity we weren't able to photograph too many children due to chickenpox. But I did get to practice on Samuel, a son of one of my fellow photographers on the course, he was so cute. Got some greatwork which I hope to post soon. It was a hairy plane ride home, where Scotland had had several inches of snow but landed safely and shot straight over to Dalhousie Castle on the outskirts of Edinburgh, to meet Kelli & Ewan who were getting married there the next day. A quick recce, then to bed and boy after 3 nights of Travelodge beds, a Dalhousie bed is comfort personified!! And the wedding Kelli & Ewan was totally gorgeous, not got anything downloaded onto this computer yet but the resulting slideshow at the evening reception went down a storm, what a beautiful coupole and SOOOOOO in love! Must post a wee teaser tomorrow! And tonight Susan and Iain (and their gorgeous daughter Erin) came to see the results of their wedding a few weeks ago; oh dear, I think Iain was surprised to see the chequebook come out; I think Susan REALLY liked the photos............................. Again, will post tomorrow some shots of the day.

Greetings from Bognor Regis!

It's not often that you find yourself at the total other end of the country from home but here I am..............in Bognor Regis, on the souf coast of Englerland!!

I am attending a residential course held in the gorgeous surroundings of West Dean College near Chichester on the South Downs, and the photographer in question is Cheryl Jacobs ( http://www.cheryljacobsphotography.com/ )

Cheryl is a fine art B&W childrens/people photographer, and she is SUCH a nice person, it is no surprise to see how she makes people relax enough to get these photos.

It has been an eye-opener for me, this course. The first day was just mentally exhausting for me, I slept form 7pm to 8am that night! It was taking in the "touchy-feely" aspect of photography, something that a lot of photography courses just don't touch on. Yeah the technical aspect is needed, but in social photography, you need to relate to people and how you do so, can come across in your work.

By critiquing my work, I found my photojournalistic work at weddings makes it difficult for me to approach a portrait session "close up". So today when I worked with a gorgeous little boy of 2 years old, I only used my 50mm lens and got some amazing work, really pleased with it. And Cheryl gave some good tips after the session in making the photo more.

Unfortunately I can't post any of this stuff at the moment, as I am sitting in a video shop cum internet cafe in Bognor!!

Must post some shots when I get home!

Gosh Heather & Mark must looooove their wedding photos! They have just emailed me with a list of their photos for an Albums Australia album with full photo front cover! Must be the quickest order, as they only picked up theri Wedding Boxes a few hours ago!!!

Joe Buissink and Heather & Mark's viewing

Today I went to a SWPP seminar featuring the amazing photographer Joe Buissink.
(It's rude to paste any of his pics into this blog, so go and have a look for yourself at
http://www.joebuissink.com )

A well-known top Hollywood snapper, who shoots for the stars like JLo, Christina Aguliera, Kelsey Grammer etc, Joe gave a heart-warming and funny view on wedding photography in Hollleeewooddddddd (said Pretty Woman style!) . The Ninja just rocks, I love how such stunning photos can be taken on the fly, my kinda style (wish I got his kinda money!) His lovely shots and great manner was well worth dragging my butt over to Grangemouth while stufffed full of a flu bug!

Then this evening, Heather & Mark came to see their photos on a slideshow, from their wedding a few weeks ago at Dalhousie Castle. It was a stunning wedding, and the Scottish weather held off enough to allow the three of us outside for 10 minutes or so.

This was my favourite shot of the day, very Yervant inspired but it was actually a grab shot as Mark went to kiss her, he must have tickled her and she threw her head back!

And now I should be going to be bed (it's 2am) but I must finish packing for my weekend away.

I am going to the very souf of Engerland to West Sussex, to take part in a 3 day seminar run by Cheryl Jacobs ( http://www.cheryljacobsphotography.com/ ) This woman does stunning people portraiture and I hope to take a lot from the seminar for both weddings and my childrens portraiture (if I stay awake long enough........................)
